Lauri Markkanen and Finland lost today to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Greece 92-89. It’s a very disappointing outcome for the Finnish basketball team that got farther than they ever have before.
Despite losing, Finland achieved a great deal and has much to be proud of. Finland basketball is now much more prominent and deserves a ton of respect, and they earned a lot of that today
in a close loss to Greece.
Some things that can be taken from this for Finland was how good Lauri Markkanen was, he stepped up in a big way and showed that, when healthy, he can be an offensive force.
On top of that, they have a young, budding star in Miikka Muurinen. You can see the makings of something special with his combination of size, athleticism, and competitiveness. He also looks like a potential defensive star with his fantastic physical tools.
With Eurobasket over, the Finnish basketball team will definitely be back next EuroBasket and has a real shot to go all the way. It’ll be fun to see how that pans out next time.
Now, it’s onto the Jazz for Lauri Markkanen and we’ll see how he plays with his new Jazz teammates.
