The Red Sox and Guardians may not have as flashy of a pitching showdown as Payton Tolle vs. Payton Messick on Tuesday night, but Sonny Gray, who leads the team – nay, the American League – in wins, with 17, and strikeout threat Foster Griffin face off. As the Red Sox bought at the deadline, so did the Guardians, and a benefactor of that is Foster Griffin. The 31-year-old lefty is having the best season of his career and has become a viable starter as the Guardians look to punch their ticket to the October
dance tonight; they have two paths and both require a win at Fenway.
For the Red Sox, who have a minted interim (insert strike through here) manager and a CBO enjoying a new option, there’s significantly less stress, but the “vibes” need to continue into the weekend even with the impending storm already rescheduling Sunday’s game against the Cubs to Friday afternoon. But for now, it’s only Wednesday, so enjoy!
