Club captain Virgil van Dijk will lead the Reds out in what could be his final season and new vice captain Dominik Szoboszlai will be doing his usual and echo the leadership from the middle of the pitch. Dom played almost every minute of the pre-season games and to this writer he appears to be a man on a mission and I’m here for it.
We finally got a chance to watch new signings Victor Munoz, Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo in the last pre-season friendly. They didn’t disappoint and we will all be
hoping the performances continue into the game away to Newcastle later and the rest of the season.
There is the small side story of Alexander Isak returning to his former club’s stadium and we are all hoping this season Isak will return to the form that made him one of the best center forwards in the Premier League. This writer is daydreaming of Isak scoring a hat trick to ruffle the Magpie’s feathers but I would also settle for him scoring once and helping us to the three points of victory.
With the Reds opening game soon upon us I just wanted to rally this wonderful TLO community to get behind Iraola and the players even though there is still a lot of frustration around Richard Hughes and his last transfer window with Liverpool (phew!). I for one am very excited to see Iraola’s style grow within the squad and witness it in full flow as fitness levels increase and the squad strengthen their understanding of each other’s game. We may feel somewhat betrayed, or at least disappointed, by how this summer’s transfers have gone as well those players who chose to take other roads in their football careers but I also know Iraola and the players won’t be feeling sorry for themselves.
So this is it, the moment has arrived and it’s going to be an interesting journey for the team and for us the supporters but this writer knows that every player and member of the coaching staff will be giving everything in the hopes of a successful season. We know what this club means, we know exciting football has returned under Iraola’s leadership and we know the anthem, so let’s throw our voices into the powerful message of You’ll Never Walk Alone. Come on you Reds!
