The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the early phases of their offseason program, with a voluntary mini-camp taking place this week just ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.
There is plenty to focus in on in terms of the Steelers’ current roster ahead of the draft, like what new head coach Mike McCarthy will do to take full advantage of DK Metcalf. The Steelers acquired the Pro Bowl receiver in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks last offseason, but the numbers didn’t exactly back up the $132 million extension he signed.
Metcalf caught 59 passes for 850 yards and six touchdowns in his first season in Pittsburgh. With the addition of Michael Pittman Jr, the Steelers should be able to open things up a bit more for the Ole Miss product. While speaking to the media on Monday, head coach Mike McCarthy raved about Metcalf and noted that he and the offense staff will try to put in a more complete route tree for him.
“When you can take slants and different vertical routes to the house… he’s just so powerful,” McCarthy said. “We’ll try to build the route menu for him.”
With Pittman being acquired, the Steelers have a proven No. 2 receiver for the first time in a long time. His addition should limit the amount of double teams Metcalf sees, which will make the passing game more dangerous and dynamic.
