Sporting CP head coach Rui Borges is ready to see his squad take on Bayern Munich.
“It’s an immensely difficult game. I think we’re going to play against the best team in Europe. Besides the individual
talent, they have a collective aspect that’s out of the ordinary, which makes it difficult. Their game is very mobile. They’re a great team and have a great coach. We’re going to do our best to compete and try to win, that’s the objective, despite the difficulty of the task. We’re going to do our utmost to honor Sporting,” Borges said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We have absences, we have to compensate for them. But we’re not going to deviate from our game plan. At times we’ll be in a low block, we have to be aware of that. Even Arsenal spent half the game in a medium/low block and scored two goals on the counter-attack. That’s football, and we have to be able to respect who’s on the other side. These games make us better.
“I want to win, I always want to win, and I’ll do everything to win. I might not succeed, and nobody wins all the time, but I want to win.”
As for the team’s injuries, well, it is rough.
“Trincão is unavailable. Pote (Pedro Gonçalves) felt discomfort and is unavailable, and Quenda will be out for a few games. Inácio and Geny are doubtful, as is Vagiannidis,” Borges stated. “Last year we drew in Dortmund with seven players from the B team. We’re going to play with 11. I’m not complaining. Of course, they are important players, I won’t deny that. Trincão and Pote are having their best individual seasons. These are things we can’t control. I would’ve liked to have everyone available, but I’m not complaining. We’re going to be competitive with the players we have.”
