Through two weeks, the Packers’ have, generally speaking, not been good.
The offense is scattershot, held back by its abysmal offensive line. The wide receivers are dropping passes (though the rain had something to do with that), Jordan Love looks consistently spooked, and the running backs can’t find their way to the few (very few) holes being opened for them.
The defense, however! The defense has been very good. Reliable, even exciting at times — and that’s without Micah Parsons, their very best
player.
It’s to the point where I’m actually excited to see the Packers on defense. Well, maybe not excited, because it usually means the Packers have just wrapped up another disappointing offensive series.
But still! Lukas Van Ness is doing cool things. Edgerrin Cooper is doing cool things. Evan Williams is doing cool things. Jonathan Gannon is conjuring blitzes that produce free runners at the quarterback. It’s delightful to see, and it’s keeping the Packers in games.
I don’t expect the Falcons’ pitiable offense will be the combo breaker here. The Packers will have a chance to do even more cool things on defense this week. It may not be enough to save their season, but it’s enough to at least keep things interesting.
