The results are in, once again, Rumblers! Is the number favorable? Like so many opinions on the Buffalo Bills, that depends on a few things. There’s zero disputing the Bills’ 5-1 record and share of first place in the AFC, that they’re in first place alone in the AFC East, and that they field one of the most frightening offenses in the NFL.
That’s a significant list of reasons to be confident in Buffalo before even mentioning that quarterback Josh Allen is in the building, and that running back James
Cook III is once again keeping pace for the rushing lead. Cook is currently third in the NFL with 627 yards, behind running backs Kenneth Walker III (701 yards), and league leader Bijan Robinson (704 yards).
There is, however, one glaring problem: the defense. For all the superlatives one can list regarding the Bills’ offense, its defense acts as a teeter-totter leveling foil. Buffalo’s defense is among the worst pro football this season, thankfully overshadowed by an offense that’s averages more points per game than the stop unit gives up.
Is that sustainable? Many observers would argue no. It’s exceedingly difficult to remain elite in the NFL, a league bathed in parity. Yet there are more flaws in the league than the one Buffalo wears — most teams are perfectly incomplete, with plenty of doubt in more than just one arena.
Offensively, the Bills are built for poor weather if the run game continues dominating opponents. The passing attack is still a work in progress (yet again) thanks to a pass-catching group bereft with injury. For all those saying there’s still time to gel in the passing game, the same holds true of the defense in any matter you wish to discuss.
It’s just going to take a lot of work, and a huge helping of luck.
Right now, it’s clear that Bills Mafia is concerned but excited for Buffalo’s chances this season. Josh Allen brings the excitement, but worry continues creeping in about a defense that smells far different than championship material.
The latest results of our weekly poll well reflect that idea. Right now, 63% of Buffalo Rumblings readers are confident the team is headed in the right direction. The playoffs feel like a given again, if the offense can keep up its pace. Then comes the playoffs, where time and again, the Bills have found an early exit.
That’s what fans are worried about once again, and for good reason because of that defense.
In national poll results, voters crowned the Bills as the best team in the AFC.
What about Buffalo’s opponent, and fans of the Baltimore Ravens? How are those from Baltimore Beatdown feeling about the Ravens at this moment? Not great, with just 14% of those polled expressing confidence in the team’s current direction.
We’ll see how they feel after Week 8, which includes the return of quarterback Lamar Jackson.
