The Texas Longhorns have made their second Austin-area flip following the pivotal official visit weekend convincing tackle Kaden Scherer to change his commitment from the Stanford Cardinal, joining the 2026
class.
The 6’6, 285-pound tackle from Georgetown committed to the Cardinal in June, choosing Stanford over Kansas State and Northwestern after visiting the trio. But after a late Texas offer and visit for the Arkansas game, the lengthy lineman made the switch to the hometown team. A consensus three-star prospect ranked as the No. 92 interior offensive lineman in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Scherer bolsters a class that needs some bodies and may give him the longer development path that he needs.
He is the second flip from Georgetown in a 24-hour period, with fellow Eagle Jett Walker making a similar decision in flipping from Minnesota on Sunday.
Scherer is the fourth offensive lineman in this class, a group highlighted by tackle John Turntine, the No. 179 player in the class of 2026. Kyle Flood and Steve Sarkisian need to make some waves in this cycle, in addition to pushing in the transfer portal, to shore up some of the deficiencies that the offensive line currently features.
The addition jumps Texas up one spot to No. 8 in the composite team rankings with 23 commitments with other flip candidates on the board — the Longhorns hosted multiple targets for the win over the Razorbacks alongside the local pair from Georgetown, and hope those late pushes pay dividends in the waning days before national signing day. Total Numbers are still uncertain, as Texas will likely see some portal movement both in and out as the window approaches.
