Spain boss Luis de la Fuente has offered an update on Lamine Yamal after naming the Barcelona teenager in his squad for World Cup 2026.
Yamal is currently out with a hamstring injury but is expected to be fit in time for the start of the tournament, although there has been talk he may not play in Spain’s opening game as a precautionary measure.
De la Fuente was asked for an update after his naming the squad and provided the following answer.
“We won’t rush any process. The dates and the report we have
indicate that everyone will be available for either the first or second match,” he told reporters.
“We won’t take any risks, but if players want to take risks, it’s at a World Cup. We’ll take some risks if necessary. We have to win every match. If they don’t play, it’s because I don’t think they should play.”
Barcelona will certainly be hoping that no risks are taken with Yamal in case he does suffer a relapse of his hamstring injury.
