Liverpool have begun to improve both performances and results in recent weeks, but after how poorly things went for the title defending Reds through October and November, nobody’s willing to say they’ve got their season 100% back on track. Not just yet at least.
Still, following a pair of strong performances against Inter Milan in Europe and Brighton in the league that saw the Reds record back to back wins for the first time in what felt like ages, there’s a deserved uptick in positivity surrounding
the club heading into a rare week off.
“It’s been a long time since we’ve seen the team play in back-to-back games like that,” Curtis Jones reflected following his own strong performance in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over The Seagulls. “Against two good teams as well who can obviously play as well.
“But the lads are in the mindframe of we won’t quit and when the chance comes that we’ll take our chance. And that’s what we did. It’s important in games like that, and in terms of the form we’ve had. I feel that teams have come against us and probably thought they can nick points.
“I feel that the first goal showed them and their fans and their staff that we’re still here as a team and as a fan base. I thought the first goal changed everything. Obviously there were spells they were on top, but that’s part of the Premier League, there’s never an easy game.”
With no mid-week European action and Liverpool out of the League Cup, they now get a week to rest, recover, and train ahead of a Tottenham side that have also struggled to live up to expectations this season—and who seem to be trending now in the wrong direction.
Spurs currently sit 11th on 22 points, four behind the Reds, having lost three and one just once in their past five games while Liverpool have a pair of wins and a pair of draws to go with a single loss in that stretch.
