Sami Zayn defeated both Cody Rhodes (who took the pin) and GUNTHER in a triple threat match to become the new WWE champion at Night of Champions this past weekend in Saudi Arabia. After, GUNTHER decided to take out his frustrations on SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, leading to finger pointing back-and-forth and finally it was the GM who snapped, pushing GUNTHER away. It led to a straight up pull apart between the two, with officials jumping in to separate them.
In an update on the situation,
Michael Cole said on Monday Night Raw this week that both have been sent home for their respective roles in the fracas:
“We have an update on this situation. This is an official statement from WWE Headquarters: General Manager Nick Aldis of SmackDown and GUNTHER have been sent home because of this situation. Also, Nick Aldis has been placed on Administrative Leave pending further investigation.”
Raw General Manager Adam Pearce will now run both the red and blue brands in the meantime.
We are left now to wonder if this angle is what will finally bring Aldis back into the fold as an active wrestler. He’s long maintained a desire to wrestle again, even if he’s been pleased with his role as an on-screen talent. He’s done a bang up job of it but the itch never leaves you in an industry like this.
Stay tuned.
