Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated is reporting that the Green Bay Packers signed offensive lineman Cordell Volson to their practice squad
on Thursday, one day after Volson — and only Volson — worked out with the team. So far this season, Volson is the seventh outside signing brought in for the Packers’ practice squad, and the addition of Volson fills Green Bay’s practice squad roster moving forward.Here is what we wrote about Volson yesterday, when it was reported that he was brought in:
Volson was
picked in the fourth round out of North Dakota State back in 2022. Over his rookie contract, he played 50 games (48 starts) with the Cincinnati Bengals at guard. He didn’t play at all during the 2025 regular season, though, because he had a season-ending surgery on his right shoulder.
After the completion of his rookie contract, he signed a one-year, $3.2 million contract with the Tennessee Titans this offseason, which included $2 million in guaranteed money. He did not make it through final cuts with the Titans, so he’s now a free agent.
For what it’s worth, Volson worked out with the Dallas Cowboys last week, who ultimately ended up signing former Pro Bowler Laken Tomlinson to their practice squad. Going into camp, it was projected that Volson was going to be the Titans’ starting right guard, but rookie fifth-round pick Fernando Carmona Jr. ended up winning the job.
Volson had a 29.1 grade in true pass protection sets in the 2024 season per Pro Football Focus, the last year in which he was active for a regular-season game.
The following players have now been brought in from the outside to fill out Green Bay’s practice squad:

That leaves us with 10 players who are currently on the Packers’ practice squad who were members of the 91-man active roster before cutdowns:

There’s a bit of a bloat at the offensive line position, but I don’t think Green Bay fans will be complaining about that after the game we just saw in Week 1. Below are the full roster counts for the Packers, once you combine the 53-man roster and 17-man practice squad:

If nothing else, there’s a big number of offensive linemen in practice for Green Bay moving forward. If I were to guess, they’re probably going to move off of one of them the next time they need to add numbers at another position.
