The Pittsburgh Steelers are 6-2 heading into the bye week and are in sole possession of first place in the AFC North after their 27-6 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. By the time the Steelers play their next game, the NFL trade deadline will have passed, and the Steelers are in the market for a big-name receiver.
NFL insider Jason La Canfora has linked the Steelers to Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson at the deadline. La Canfora wrote “Stay tuned,” on his X account in response to Dave Dameshek,
who was reacting to the report that the Steelers are interested in the star wideout.
However, trading for Wilson wouldn’t be cheap for the Steelers. First off, it’s entirely possible that the rebuilding Jets would like to hold onto their young receiver to give their next quarterback a solid offensive foundation to work with. A package for Wilson would almost certainly require at least one first-round pick going to the Jets.
Wilson has familiarity with Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers from their time together with the Jets. The receiver posted his best season of his career thus far with Rodgers throwing him the football in 2024, as he hauled in 101 passes for 1,104 and seven touchdowns.
It wouldn’t be easy or cheap to acquire Wilson, but it would certainly give the Steelers a legitimate wide receiver 1 to build their offense around for years to come, and help them immediately in their playoff push with someone their veteran quarterback has proven success with. If the Steelers are truly serious about going for it all this season, keep an eye out for a big move.
