There was a report yesterday that the team is getting some outside interest in their left handed relief pitching.
The Phillies have fielded steady interest in all three of their left-handed relievers since
the offseason began, major-league sources said, and it could nudge them toward a trade. The free-agent market for lefty relievers is not robust; some of the best available arms are Gregory Soto, Drew Pomeranz, Danny Coulombe and Hoby Milner.
Having three left handed relievers is something of a luxury for the team. Not many other teams have one good lefty, let alone three. Matt Strahm was the most effective of the trio last year, though Tanner Banks was good in his own right against, even if the leverage situations of the two was different. Jose Alvarado was suspended for most of the season, yet possesses the velocity other teams crave from their bullpen.
Which one, if any, should the team deal away? Personally, if the idea is to free up money to add a different mix of arms, the Phillies should simply keep the money.
