The news came as a shock to fans and certainly to the player — Bayern Munich phenom Lennart Karl saw his World Cup dreams dashed by an untimely and unfortunate injury while preparing to face the United States in a tune-up game.
Obviously, the news hit Karl hard and as kids his age are wont to do, the youngster fired up Instagram to express his disappointment, but also offer a message of resilience as he is looking forward to coming back better than ever. The picture is absolutely killer for the moment
as well:
I don’t even know where to start but it hurts indescribably to have to miss the biggest tournament. Did everything to be fit for the World Cup. Unfortunately, injuries often come at the most unfortunate moment.
I wish my team maximum success and, of course, I support them every minute!
I will come back stronger, promise💪🏻
Thank you for the powerful messages ❤️
Much success @dfb_team 🖤❤️💛
Sky Germany journalist Kerry Hau reported that Karl is headed back to Germany to heal and start the recovery process:
Lennart Karl is on his way back to Germany. Julian Nagelsmann has rallied the entire team and staff to bid Karl farewell. The 18-year-old also spoke to everyone one more time. DFB President Bernd Neuendorf says: “It was unbelievably sad. A few tears were shed as well.”
Head coach Julian Nagelsmann called up RB Leipzig’s Assan Ouédraogo to take Karl’s World Cup roster spot with Germany.
