Media rights in the United States have been a hot topic all week as the Bundesliga awarded it’s English language rights to USA Network and Fandango, while the Spanish language rights were awarded to Telemundo (part of Peacock).
Now,, per soccer journalist Jonathan Tannenwald, Telemundo has also landed the Spanish language rights for the Champions League, which will allow Bayern Munich fans to get all of the team’s action for the Bundesliga and Champions League in one place — if you want to watch the games
being broadcast in Spanish.
For cost conscious fans, this does present the ability to consolidate:
For English language broadcasts, it should be noted that USA Network is available on most linear cable carriers as part of the basic package, while Fandango is free. The catch with the English rights is that some games will be exclusively aired on USA Network.
While none of these options could be considered optimal, there — at least — are options to ensure fans have some outlet to watch the games. All that said, the DFB-Pokal and 2. Bundesliga are still currently unaccounted for.
