Player Ratings: Real Madrid 1–1 Girona
Andriy Lunin: 7
Not at fault for Girona’s goal, and only had to make one save all night — a very good one early in the first half.
Dani Carvajal: 7
You can tell he is a step slow when chasing speedy wingers, and he was fortunate not to be up against a team better equipped to punish that. Still, he showed great fight with his pressing and nearly picked up an assist for Valverde.
Eder Militao: 7 Good distribution and excellent defensive coverage throughout the night.
Raul Asencio: 6.5
A solid showing on his return. He didn’t do much wrong, and had the most touches of anyone on the field while being reliable in possession.
Fran Garcia: 7
Provided good overloads all night and drove the ball forward with purpose.
Fede Valverde: 7
Scored a customary long-range goal and nearly added another. He was fluid with his positioning and covered a lot of ground.
Jude Bellingham: 7
Produced plenty of good touches and defensive work, but he could have been better with his finishing. One shot in particular was too tame from a very good scoring position.
Eduardo Camavinga: 7
His long-range passing and link-up play around the box were good. There is an argument that he should have closed down Lemar better on Girona’s goal, but he actually got there in time and was unlucky to be nutmegged.
Brahim Diaz: 8
Madrid’s best creator on the night. He played some excellent passes into the box, finished with seven key passes, and registered an assist.
Kylian Mbappe: 4
Wasteful with his shooting, though he did get into good positions and was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty.
Vinicius Jr: 6
At times he was too slow with his decision-making, which allowed Girona to reset defensively, but his dribbling, passing, and pressing were all good.
Substitutes
Dean Huijsen: 6.5
Came on and helped Madrid retain possession while also competing well in the air.
Arda Güler: 6.5
Brought control and looked to deliver crosses into the box when Girona were pinned back late on.
Aurelien Tchouameni: 6.5
Mostly served as a solid distributor in his brief cameo.
Ferland Mendy: 6.5
Good on the ball and didn’t have much defending to do. He only played 10 minutes, with his bigger test set to come Wednesday against Bayern.
Gonzalo Garcia: N/A
