Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight talents Beneil Dariush vs. Quillan Salkilld will go to war this weekend (Sat., May 2, 2026) inside RAC Arena in Perth, Australia for UFC Perth.
How much does 36-year-old Dariush have left in the tank? He’s suffered three knockout losses in his last five fights, but he also managed to turn away quality fighters in Renato Moicano and Mateusz Gamrot as well. Clearly, the skills are still there, but it’s hard to remain a top contender if you can’t walk
through the occasional hard punch.
Salkilld, a decade his foe’s junior, is rising up the ranks quickly. The Aussie standout hasn’t lost a fight since his professional debut, winning 11 straight and making a splash in his four UFC appearances. Young, athletic, and aggressive, Salkilld may be getting pushed into contention too soon or could prove himself a genuine title threat with another win.
Let’s take a closer look at the betting odds and strategic keys for each athlete:

How Dariush Wins
Dariush is one of the great anti-wrestlers of the last decade. The jiu-jitsu black belt is incredibly difficult to take or hold down, and he’s a classic representative of aggressive Muay Thai on the feet. He’s all-offense from the left side, blasting his opposition with left kicks, knees, and overhands.
Just like with his last matchup versus Benoit Saint Denis, this is a very winnable style clash for Dariush … but keep in mind how that “BSD” fight ended. Salkilld’s strong suits are his wrestling and top control, which Dariush is built to defend and deny. On the feet, Dariush has the more potent hands and generally is a little more fluid with his combinations.
The recipe for a sprawl-and-brawl win is clearly there, but durability remains a huge concern. Against Saint Denis, Dariush sprinted forward in the opening seconds, landing big shots right away. In the process, however, he gave his younger and more durable opponent an opportunity to land while fully fresh and firing at 100%, which did not end well!
This time around, Dariush has to be more patient and let the fight play out. He’s the experienced veteran here and must act like it, lest he risk another quick KO loss.
How Salkilld Wins
An obviously gifted athlete, Salkilld has a well-rounded game and the smarts to make the most of it. His wrestling and grappling are very strong, and on the feet, Salkilld cracks with good power and has a powerful kicking game. I’m still most impressed by his performance against Nasrat Haqparast, which saw him masterfully avoid the pocket by using takedown attempts and range kicks to deny Haqparast any opportunity to box.
Even before landing that all-time great head kick, it was very intelligent work from a young prospect.
Sometimes, the smartest play is to roll the dice a bit. Salkilld’s advantages here are youth and durability, and he needs to force exchanges to take advantage of those gifts. Taking a shot to land one is a perfectly acceptable trade for the Aussie, who has never been stopped by strikes yet has scored two UFC knockouts already in his young career.
Salkilld does not want to spend this fight wrestling, where Dariush’s shaky chin is a non-factor, nor should he just be trading power kicks at distance. In an inverse of the Haqparast game plan, Salkilld actually wants to close into the pocket and extend combinations, as that’s his best chance to catching Dariush with a big swing.
Dariush vs. Salkilld Prediction
Unfortunately, it’s very difficult to have confidence in Dariush, who has been knocked out or rocked in his last four fights. He’s never been the most athletic or durable contender, so even a slight decline in either area leaves him quite vulnerable. Salkilld isn’t necessarily a monster knockout artist, but then, neither was Benoit Saint Denis!
It doesn’t help that Dariush is openly struggling to make weight nowadays.
Athleticism, youth, and durability win fights far more often than technical ability in MMA. Salkilld is a promising young talent, and Dariush is on his way out. The matchup doesn’t have to be perfect for the up-and-comer to place a big right hand on the jawline early and walk away with the most high-profile win of his career — that’s just the natural order of things.
