The Athletic is reporting that Germany’s previously announced friendly match with the United States men’s national team will take place in Chicago next June, just ahead of next summer’s Men’s World Cup:
In the pre-World Cup window, the second game will be in early June against Germany in Chicago, according to multiple sources briefed on the plans. The first will be on the East Coast, with planning currently focused on Charlotte, and the opponent to be finalized after the Dec. 5 World Cup draw, sources said.
Germany recently capped its World Cup qualification campaign with a 6-0 thrashing of Slovakia, locking up a Pot 1 spot in the process. The USMNT had its own successful November with a stunning 5-1 win over Uruguay despite missing numerous starters. For both head coaches — Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino — next summer is quickly coming into focus after periods of recent tumult.
In June, it will be a measuring stick of how far each side really has come.
