As he has done since joining Bayern Munich, head coach Vincent Kompany is planning to keep a strong focus on the DFB-Pokal ahead of the team’s match against VfL Osnabrück.
“The most important thing is to realise that it could be difficult, and not to underestimate it. I’ve heard a lot about the Bremer Brücke. You always have to solve this puzzle – whether it’s the Champions League, the Bundesliga or the cup. It’s always about winning. You have to take that information on board and keep the bar just
as high. Solving this puzzle is sometimes difficult, but we have a squad that allows us to do so,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Kompany noted that there is a certain allure that the DFB-Pokal finale holds — and he wants to experience it again.
“Once you’ve been in the final, you always want to get there again. Our opponents were Stuttgart; they’d reached the final twice in a row. We want to achieve that now too. Anyone can have that dream – even Osnabrück dream of special moments in this competition. Last year, it all started against Wiesbaden, which wasn’t easy. These matches are usually tough. That’s part and parcel of the cup competition. You have to be mentally prepared for a real battle,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
While VfL Osnabrück might not be a powerhouse, there is a certain sense of danger — of maybe even being upset — and having to go home for the rest of the season. With the mentality that Kompany expects from his team, Bayern Munich should be well-equipped to avoid any letdowns or lapses.
