Daily Mail’s Craig Hope believes there remains “a chance” that Elliot Anderson could one day return to Newcastle United, revealing the midfielder maintains strong ties with key figures at St James’ Park.
“In short, yes, there’s a chance,” Hope reported. “Interestingly, he has a very good relationship with Wilson from their time together at Nottingham Forest.”
Hope stressed that no move is currently in motion, but said the mutual respect between Anderson, Eddie Howe, and Ross Wilson keeps the door open.
“While there is no suggestion of any moves being made, the admiration Eddie Howe and Wilson have for Anderson — and vice versa — means that he is certain to feature on a long list of targets heading into next summer or beyond,” Hope wrote.
The 21-year-old joined Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2024 as Newcastle sought to comply with profit and sustainability rules, a sale that brought financial relief but sporting regret.
“Every time I see Anderson play,” Hope added, “it brings home just what a special talent Newcastle had to let go to satisfy their PSR deficit in the summer of 2024.”
Anderson has since flourished at the City Ground, breaking into England’s senior setup and becoming one of Forest’s most consistent performers under Nuno Espírito Santo.
Hope thus noted that “for now, Anderson is happy and thriving at the City Ground, as evidenced by his emergence with England.”
While Hope ruled out any imminent transfer approach, his comments make clear that Newcastle’s hierarchy continues to view Anderson as a potential long-term option should circumstances align.
