Perhaps it’s a bit early for this, but with the Cubs having crept to within three games of the NL Central lead, I thought it would be worth looking at the teams’ remaining schedules, a good discussion topic.
Both teams have 41 games remaining. The Brewers lead the season series with the Cubs four games to two, and the teams play each other seven times — four at Wrigley Field at the end of this month, three in Milwaukee a week later. The Cubs would have to win five of the seven to take the season series and thus
have the tiebreaker against the Brewers.
Per Tankathon, the teams have similar strength of their remaining schedules, the Cubs opponents at .527 (second toughest) and the Brewers at .520 (tied for fourth toughest). Both teams have winning records at home and on the road, and the Cubs have four more home games remaining than the Brewers do. The Cubs have also nearly caught up to the Brewers in run differential. Milwaukee is at +130 entering Thursday’s action and the Cubs are +115.
