Rob Liddington homered and recorded four RBIs, Cole Cramer went 2 for 5 with three RBIs and TCU bounced back from a series loss against Arizona with a midweek victory over Tarleton State on Tuesday evening. Colton Griffin went 2 for 3 with two RBIs atop the order for the Horned Frogs, who collected 10 hits in their 12-5 win. Six pitchers took the mound for TCU (22-14, 8-7 Big 12), which will face Baylor on the road this weekend.
Nolan Johnson started for the Horned Frogs, throwing two and one-third innings and allowing a pair of runs. Tyler Phenow recorded two outs of scoreless relief before Cade Nelson and Walter Quinn each fired two frames without allowing a run. Tanner Sagouspe added a scoreless inning for the Horned Frogs, who broke the game open with seven runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Nelson earned the win, improving to 1-0 on the year.
TCU took a 3-1 lead on run-scoring singles from Cramer and Griffin in the bottom of the second. Leading 5-3 entering the bottom of the eighth, TCU compiled seven runs on three hits including Liddington’s grand slam. Cramer smacked an RBI single and Noah Franco reached on an infield single for an RBI as well. The Horned Frogs drew seven walks and overcame seven strikeouts and eight runners left on base in the victory.
