Liverpool 1 – 4 PSV Eindhoven
Reds: Szoboszlai 16’
PSV: Perisic 6’ (pen), Til 56’, Driouech 73’ 90’
Pre-Match
Anfield boos during the Champions League anthem. Not because of UEFA, but because football is about to happen to them.
First Half
Virgil van Dijk
swats the ball out of the air in the box. Like, at full stretch. And somehow feels the need to complain about it. Anyway. It’s a pen and 1-0 to the visitors.
Liverpool equalize 10 minutes after conceding. It’s a bit fortunate, but we’ll take it. Gakpo cuts inside and hits a shot hard and low, but directly at the keeper. He saves the initial shot, but the rebound comes to Szoboszlei who calmly slots.
Virg then goes into the book with an uncharactaristically rash challenge out wide, and Liverpool try their damnedest to concede on the ensuing free kick, but PSV are offside.
As the half draws to a close, Liverpool have largely looked good without necessarily really threatening to score a second goal. However, they have kept the visitors to one shot—the penalty—so I guess that’s at least something?
Second Half
PSV make it 2-1 early-ish in the second half. Always the hard way is more fun when we actually come back and win games. And not just like…lose.
And Hugo did his hammy. Football was a mistake.
And PSV score a third. Konate at fault not once but twice on that sequence. Impressive commitment to the bit.
And a fourth. Please make it stop.
Final Thoughts
I’m tired, Robbie.
