The TCU Horned Frogs (5-2; 2-2 Big 12) head east to Morgantown, WV to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers (2-5; 0-4 Big 12) in a Big 12 battle on Saturday evening.
WVU is in the middle of a disappointing
season in Rich Rodriguez’s return to the program as head coach. The Mountaineers’ only FBS win on the season was over Backyard Brawl rival Pitt earlier this season as the team enters the game winless in conference play thus far. WVU is without preseason All-Big 12 running back Jaheim White who suffered an injury ahead of the season. It has been ugly for the ‘Eers in league play, losing every game by at least two touchdowns. However, only one of those games was at home, a 48-14 loss to Utah. Milan Puskar can be one of the league’s most challenging road venues, even when WVU is down Morgantown is a tough place to go earn a win.
The Horned Frogs are coming off a rivalry win of its own, defeating Baylor in Fort Worth last week 42-36. QB Josh Hoover remains among the nation’s best in every statistical category, but turnover concerns linger especially during road contests. The Frogs have four pass catchers with 20+ receptions, led by Eric McAlister with over 600 yards and seven receiving scores. Defensively, TCU is led by linebacker Kaleb Elarms-Orr with 64 tackles & 3 sacks. both good for the team lead. Safety Jamel Johnson is lethal as both a tackler, making 55 stops on the season, and in coverage, his four interceptions is tied for third most nationally.
