Hubert Davis received some huge news before tonight’s game against North Carolina Central: five-star 2026 prospect Maximo Adams announced his commitment to UNC. He is the first commit in the 2026 class,
and also put an end to a 10-month commitment drought that Davis had been dealing with.
Adams is a 6’7 small forward that currently plays for Sierra Canyon High School. He is listed as the 10th-best small forward in the 2026 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, and he is the 22nd-best player in the country. After receiving offers from a number of Power Four programs, including Duke, he narrowed his list down to UNC, Kentucky, Michigan State, and Texas. Ultimately it was Hubert Davis that came away victorious, and a much needed one to hopefully start some momentum in shaping this particular freshman class.
As far as his skillset on the court, here is what Inside Carolina’s Sean Moran had to say about UNC’s newest commit:
“Adams is one of the more complete wings on the offensive side of the ball in the 2026 class,” said Inside Carolina analyst Sean Moran. “He runs the court well in transition where he can attack the basket from the wings. He is a pure shooter in catch and shoot situations with solid form in the halfcourt set as well. With victoriosu size, Adams likes to post up smaller defenders when given the opportunity. He is not an iso-type player, but knows how to attack angles and move off the ball. Defensively, Adams can guard either forward spot and is comfortable guarding on the perimeter. He attacks the glass hard and his length can disrupt opposing players in the half-court set.”
It’s worth noting that Adams will also be another name on Hubert Davis’ list of big-time commitments that he has landed since he accepted the head coaching job at UNC. Elliot Cadeau, Ian Jackson, Drake Powell, and Caleb Wilson were all top 25 recruits that had an immediate impact during their time in Chapel Hill, with Wilson currently working on leaving his mark on the program. There’s a lot of high-caliber talent left on Davis’ recruiting board as well, so we’ll see who decides to join Adams next season in the program’s quest to win the ACC and hopefully make it back to the Final Four.
