Good morning, baseball fans!
At least, I hope it’s a good morning. The best mornings start with a great night’s sleep. So today, I thought we’d watch a video that the San Francisco Giants’ social media team put out recently where Dave Groeschner (vice-president of medical and performance) sits down to discuss how the Giants’ medical staff helps ensure the team gets the best sleep possible.
It is, essentially, an ad for Macini’s Sleepworld, the sponsor of the video. But it’s pretty interesting to see
how the medical team prioritizes sleep as an important aspect of player health and performance. Most interesting to me, personally, is the sleep room that Mancini’s put together for the players inside of the ballpark. My co-workers and I have often said we wish our office had a rest room. Because sometimes when you’re not feeling well at work all you really need is just to be horizontal for a little while.
The sleep room that the Giants have features a couple of bunk beds and a gosh darn floating bed. The bed doesn’t float, but apparently it feels like you are when you are using it, which removes gravity as a factor and allows your body to release stress on your joints.
Gonna need every employer to catch up to the Giants on this front and institute a sleep room with a float bed as an employee perk.
What time do the Giants play today?
The Giants conclude this three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds this afternoon at 12:45 p.m. PT.
