British heavyweight Johnny Fisher is scheduled to take on Michael Pirotton
this weekend, and tells Sky Sports that he’s looking to make the most of the opportunity as he believes he’s nearing the big fights he’s dreamed about. While Fisher might not have all the accolades of a world level fighter, he says he has the personality, passionate fan base and the exciting style to make him a viable option for a big name.So when talking about fights like this weekend, Fisher looks at it in simple terms.
“Yes, you’ve got jeopardy and you can lose, you can go down the rungs. But you’re still only one or two fights away from being the big time.”
One fighter with name value thrown at Fisher was former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, and Fisher acknowledged that would be exactly the kind of fight he’d be interested in, although he admits there’s been no legitimate discussion on putting that together at this time.
So in the meanwhile Fisher is focusing on the task at hand and honing in on an aggressive style that’s gotten him to this point. He admits that in the past he’s tried to change and adapt his style away from what he knows best, but that hasn’t suited him so well. Now, he knows better.
“You can’t change what you are, you can’t try and be something you’re not. I’ve tried that in the past, it doesn’t work. You’ve got to be who you are in the boxing ring as well. I think that’s what’ll do.”
In that respect, Fisher hopes to continue building momentum this weekend at the Copper Box Arena.
