Promoter Frank Warren says that Tyson Fury has his next opponent set, and that the “warm-up” before facing Anthony Joshua will be announced this week.
From Sky Sports:
“It’ll be a good opponent – it’ll be good for him. He can’t afford to slip up, because obviously AJ’s got his fight in a few weeks’ time. [Joshua’s] got to come through that, Tyson has to come through his, and then the big one will be in November.”
Fury (35-2-1, 24 KO) returned on April 11 to beat Arslanbek Makhmudov in London, and called
out Joshua from the ring after the fight. Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, indicated interest but didn’t play along much with Fury’s antics.
The interest, at least, is real. Joshua will fight Kristian Prenga on July 25, which presents very little threat on paper, and then, as Warren noted, reports have Fury vs Joshua signed for late in the year, likely November.
Don’t expect a whole lot of Fury’s next foe, either, as all the money and all the intrigue is in finally seeing Tyson vs AJ.
