Yesterday, the Minnesota Lynx defeated the Connecticut Sun, 86-80 at home. They are now 16-6 which leads the WNBA standings. Obviously, we don’t cover the Lynx on a day-to-day basis, but the game does have implications on the Washington Mystics in the history books.
It’s because Head Coach Cheryl Reeve won her 380th game to surpass former Washington Mystics head coach Mike Thibault, who had 379.
Thibault became the winningest coach during the 2013 season, his first year with the Mystics. He spent his first 10 years (2003-12) with the Connecticut Sun. You can read this reflection on Thibault on that accomplishment and more here from Swish Appeal, SB Nation’s women’s basketball site.
Reeve spoke after the game where she was complimentary of Thibault, while also noting that her longevity made this record inevitable.
Congratulations Coach Reeve for setting the new standard on coaching wins.
