After making key mistakes in both New York Giants preseason games, running back Tyrone Tracy has been dropped from sharing the first team with Cam Skattebo to sharing the second team with Devin Singletary and newly-signed Najee Harris.
Tracy missed a block in a game against the Minnesota Vikings that led by Jaxson Dart taking a huge hit and being forced to undergo a concussion check. In Week 2 against the Miami Dolphins, Tracy fumbled without being hit.
A 2024 fifth-round pick, Tracy has been a quality
player. He has surpassed 1,000 yards from scrimmage in each of his two seasons despite not being the Giants’ No. 1 back to begin either season.
The presence of John Harbaugh as head coach and the recent signing of Harris, a four-time 1,000-yard rusher, has led many to wonder if Tracy could now be fighting to remain on the roster despite his previous production.
“I don’t think you say, hey, a bad play or even two bad plays nullifies a whole career body of work,” Harbaugh said when asked about Tracy after the Week 2 game against Miami. “In the last two games, he’s had two things you don’t want to have. So, nobody feels worse about it than he does. I mean, he’s very conscientious, very determined guy. It matters a lot to him, so he’s beating himself up. But the rest of the plays were all good. They were all pluses. So, you don’t hold it against him. At the same time, you understand how valuable and important those things are to your football team, and he knows as well.”
