What is the story about?
The
New York Giants have spent the offseason re-tooling their roster under new head coach John Harbaugh. Here is a look at the pre-training camp depth charts on offense, defense, and special teams.
Offense
My thoughts:
- Could Dante Miller or Damon Bankston knock Devin Singletary off the roster? I doubt it, but I think we will be surprised by some of the roster decisions that are made.
- Is Chris Manhertz a lock to make the roster at tight end?
- If Malik Nabers is ready Week 1 I think Nabers, Darius Slayton, Darnell Mooney, Calvin Austin, and Malachi Fields are roster locks. The last spot or two is anyone’s guess. Odell Beckham probably wins a spot if he makes it through camp healthy.
- Will the Giants choose to move on from Jon Runyan? Could Bryan Hudson win the backup center job?
Defense
My thoughts:
- Can the Giants make a functional defensive line out of the gobbledygook they have on the roster? I don’t know.
- At outside linebacker, can Darius Muasau keep his job?
- At cornerback, what will the pecking order be opposite Paulson Adebo?
- At safety, could Jason Pinnock or Ar’Darius Washington steal a starting job?
Special teams
My thoughts:
- Youth appears about to be served at the long-snapper and placekicker positions.
- The punt and kickoff return situations will be interesting to watch this summer.
