Bayern Munich is heading into another massive summer, and while the focus will naturally fall on incoming transfers, there are just as many questions about who should leave the club after the World Cup. Squad turnover is inevitable for a team with Bayern Munich’s ambitions, especially when several players either struggled for consistency, failed to establish themselves, or simply no longer seem to fit the long-term vision.
That brings us to today’s question: which Bayern Munich player(s) should the
club look to sell after the World Cup, and why?
There are several obvious candidates, but each case is a little different.
Near the top of the list for some fans will likely be Kim Min-jae. When Bayern Munich signed him after his dominant season with Napoli, the expectation was that he would become the cornerstone of the defense for years to come. Instead, his time in Munich has been inconsistent. Injuries, shaky positioning in big matches, and lapses in confidence have all hurt him. There is still a quality player there, but Bayern Munich may decide that a reset benefits both sides — especially if a strong World Cup raises his transfer value. Selling him could be tough due to his big salary, though.
Another interesting name is Alexander Nübel. Bayern Munich has spent years trying to determine whether he could eventually succeed Manuel Neuer, but that conversation never truly gained momentum and is now over, given that Nübel has officially been told he is out of the mix.
The same uncertainty surrounds Hiroki Itō. Injuries have made it difficult for him to establish rhythm or chemistry, and Bayern Munich’s defensive depth chart remains crowded. The club may still believe in his versatility, but if Bayern Munich aggressively rebuilds its back line this summer, Itō could become expendable faster than expected.
Then there is João Palhinha, whose situation feels especially complicated. Bayern Munich pushed hard to sign him, but the fit has never looked entirely natural. His defensive strengths are obvious, yet the midfield often appears too rigid when he plays. If Bayern Munich wants a more fluid and technical midfield setup moving forward, Palhinha could become one of the biggest names sacrificed to fund other moves.
On the right side of defense, Sacha Boey also faces an uncertain future. Injuries derailed much of his momentum, and he never truly locked down a consistent role. Bayern Munich expected an explosive, dynamic fullback, but availability and adaptation issues have prevented him from becoming that player consistently. With Bayern Munich often linked to additional fullback reinforcements, Boey may find himself squeezed out.
The younger players create a different kind of debate. Arijon Ibrahimović still has an intriguing upside, but Bayern Munich must decide whether he realistically has a pathway into the first team. At some point, talented prospects need regular minutes instead of endless loans and bench appearances. A permanent move with a buy-back clause might make sense for everyone involved.
A similar argument applies to Bryan Zaragoza. There is talent and creativity there, but adapting to Bayern Munich’s intensity and physical demands proved to be too difficult. If the club signs another winger this summer, Zaragoza could quickly slide even further down the pecking order.
Finally, there is Daniel Peretz. Bayern Munich clearly values his potential, but goalkeepers need consistent playing time to develop. In his loan at Southampton this season, Peretz got just that.
Of course, those are just a few possibilities. Some fans may prefer patience with these players, while others may believe Bayern Munich needs a far more aggressive approach to return to the very top of Europe.
So what do you think? Which Bayern Munich player(s) should the club look to sell after the World Cup, and why?
