The Daily Merengue is a place where you can feel free to do all things football. Do not be alarmed by the overt RMCF bias. It’s in the name! Shoutout to the mods who do a fantastic job, Ezek, Valyrian Steel, Felipejack, Juninho, NeRObutBlanco and yours truly, Kung_Fu_Zizou
Real Madrid are inevitable. There have been comparisons to the post-Ferguson Manchester United. It is understandable when the context of Real Madrid only focuses on the success but without interrogating the circumstances surrounding
that success. Karim Benzema has repeatedly said that the 2011/12 side was the best Real Madrid.. How much did they win? Cristiano Ronaldo won 2 league titles with a squad filled with superstars for 9 seasons. He won more Ballon d’Or titles than than league titles.
Real Madrid have been this way for decades. One has to erase their memory in order to believe there’s anything new happening with the club. If anything, this is the norm.
La Liga is an afterthought. Real Madrid only feel pressure to win La Liga when it starts to get embarrassing. And yes, we’re not there yet. We’re not yet embarrassed because we’re still in the Champions league. A proper thrashing from Bayern Munich would put into perspective the atrocious character of our club for 2 seasons running now.
Arbeloa has done a fantastic job under the circumstances. One would not expect him to be perfect if they’ve got any grasp of reality.
Last Chance Saloon
Real Madrid have one game left to play and that’s the Champions league tie against Bayern Munich. Beyond that are glorified friendlies before the curtain officially comes down. Florentino and Co made a right mess with their treatment of Xabi Alonso. Real Madrid are not successful because they lack patience.. A cleaner perspective is that Real Madrid cannot be consistently successful in La Liga because there’s a lack of patience and respect for the domestic affairs. The players carry that as well and it shows on the pitch when there’s not Champions League glory at the end of 90 minutes. It shows when the players leave everything at home and bring shells of themselves to the games against lower opposition in La Liga. The same players who were at war against a superior Bayern side, who tried so hard that the opposition felt threatened notwithstanding their genuine superiority. Those same players rolled over and played nice against Mallorca. A clear lack of respect for the competition. If I have confused the reader here; Real Madrid players can throw out the form book and tactical guide to rattle a superior opponent but roll out the red carpet for bottom feeders.
Heads in the clouds
Xabi Alonso was there to build a team with the character to respect every opposition and every competition. This offended fans and management alike. How dare you come here and think we’re competing against other teams? We’re competing against our CL trophy cabinet. Anything else is noise and it’s going to offend us. A team? Why? We have superstars? What are you doing trying to build a team? A consistent approach to the game built around principles when we can vibe our way to CL by upsetting the odds one more time? Xabi offended everyone with his arrogance. I mean who told him Real Madrid needed a coach? It’s like he’s a trained engineer and he’s been hired to to be a janitor and he doesn’t know.
The Real Madrid Way
I have very little complaints about the players. The players merely reflect the character of the club and its fans. They reflect the same fanbase that forgets that 4 Liga titles in 16 years is an absolute disgrace. The players are doing just fine. The Champions League is the only thing that matters. So why is everyone mad that there’s suddenly teams better than us in the Champions League? It happens all the time. It’s a cup competition. Extremely difficult to win. It’s only natural that we won’t win 5 every 10 seasons. So there’s really nothing strange or upsetting when one considers this is actually par for the course.
