Barcelona manager Hansi Flick celebrated his 100th game in charge of the club on Saturday and saw his team beat Villarreal 4-1 at Camp Nou.
It’s a good win for the Catalan giants, although tempers did flare on the touchline in the second half between Flick and Villarreal boss Marcelino.
Flick picked up a booking for his troubles and was grilled on the incident afterwards.
“We talked about it afterwards outside. In the end, fair play is when a player is on the ground and you kick the ball out of play,”
he told reporters.
“We did it once, maybe twice, and at that moment Lamine was lying on the ground, I expected that from the opponent, and that’s what I told him.
“But emotions run high, it happens. He’s doing a great job with this team and I respect him a lot. After the game, it’s forgotten; it’s just the moment. I got the yellow card for that, and I deserved it.”
Flick also took time out to praise his team for a good display against the Yellow Submarine.
“It was important for us to play at this level; we needed the confidence,” he added.
“In the first half, we could have scored one or two more goals. I’m very happy with the result and the performance; everyone gave their best and I enjoyed watching it.”
Barcelona now switch focus to Atletico in the Copa del Rey, with Flick admitting: “Everyone knows that scoring four goals against Atlético is not easy, but we will fight, we will not give up and we will see what happens on Tuesday.”
