Sunday’s Clasico was full of controversy as usual but one incident in particular caught the eye from a Barcelona perspective.
Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal pushed Ronald Araujo late on in the game in the penalty area in a collision that went unpunished by referee César Soto Grado.
Even former ref Mateu Lahoz was surprised it wasn’t given as a spot-kick. He told Tiempo de Juego that Carvajal “takes a risk because he pushes him from behind.”
He goes on to say: “If it hadn’t been this match, the penalty
would have been called.”
Obviously a spot kick at that point would have given Barcelona the chance to grab a late equaliser from the penalty spot but it simply wasn’t to be
It wasn’t the only big decision in the game. Referee César Soto Grado also overturned a penalty given in favor of Real Madrid early on but then did award the hosts a spot-kick for a handball by Eric Garcia.
