Darren Till has no problem admitting that Ian Machado Garry is a very good fighter but he can’t say the same about his personality and the way he handles himself publicly.
Following a dominant win over
former UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad in the UFC Qatar co-main event, Garry ended up getting into a backstage altercation with middleweight king Khamzat Chimaev, who was there cornering his friend Arman Tsarukyan. After watching everything unfold, Till blasted Garry for his behavior and said no matter how good he might be as a fighter, he’ll never find a way to root for him.
“Ian Garry is such a good fighter man but by god is he possibly the fakest human on Earth?” Till wrote on Twitter. “Fake beyond all beliefs. It’s so hard to like him. I’ve literally sat in my bedroom with my own little demons in my head telling me to force myself to like him.
“He’s calling Khamzat a child. He was being fake. That whole interaction was fake. And when Ian turned you could see he was scared. Khamzat is like me. That’s why we were best mates. If you chat shit when we see you what is. Ian is a really good fighter but he’s just such so unlikeable. So so, so unlikeable.”
Till also took issue with Garry giving former UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards grief after he suffered a third loss in a row when he was knocked out by Carlos Prates at UFC 322.
Once upon a time, Garry actually trained at the same gym as Edwards but he was ultimately asked to leave over a culture clash between teammates. Edwards later told MMA Fighting that Garry “just didn’t fit into the gym” and he was eventually booted.
Garry now trains full time in Brazil at Chute Boxe alongside former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira.
“Even hating on Leon’s performance the way he did,” Till wrote. “Garry got kicked out of that gym as he did of others [cause] he’s a w*nker at the end of the day.
“As much as he’s a good fighter and I’ve tried to support Ian Garry is just a proper, proper w*nker. A fake w*nker at that.”
Of course, Till counts Chimaev as a close friend and frequent teammate after they started working together a few years ago. Obviously they remain close with Till taking up for Chimaev after the incident with Garry unfolded on Saturday in Qatar.
