While it may still feel strange to think of Genoa manager Daniele De Rossi as an adversary, the realities of the Serie A table have forced Roma fans to set aside those awkward feelings. After throwing away two points to Juventus last Sunday, the Giallorossi squandered an opportunity to strengthen their position in the top four. A victory over Juve last weekend would have not only created a five-point gap between the two clubs, but also would have tied Roma with Napoli in third place, while keeping
upstart Como at bay.
And, well, here we are a week after that disappointing draw, and not only is Juventus nipping at their heels, but Roma now has to consider Como a serious contender for fourth place. After Cesc Fabregas’s side dispatched Cagliari earlier this weekend, Roma must win today’s fixture against the Genoa Cricket and Football Club. Anything short of a victory could seriously jeopardize their chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season.
But for the next 90 minutes, the only thing that matters is grounding the Griffins.
