Angel City FC and the National Women’s Soccer League are losing one of their biggest stars.
After being listed as out (excused absence) for Monday’s match against Bay FC, it was likely that Alyssa Thompson would be transferred.
According to reports from The Athletic, ahead of the WSL’s Thursday transfer deadline, ACFC and Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement for the superstar.
Additionally, she has signed a five-year contract with Chelsea.
At $1.3 million it is the second highest ever transfer fee
in women’s football, second only to $1.5 million record set recently by the Orlando Pride’s acquisition of Lizbeth Ovalle.
Earlier in the week, Tom Garry of The Guardian, shared that the NWSL and ACFC were ‘reluctant to see such a key player leave’ and now ACFC who are just one point below the playoff line are now left in a dire situation.
With the NWSL’s secondary transfer window closed as of August 25, Angel City FC Sporting Director, Mark Parsons will only have access to the intra-league trade window – remains open until the roster freeze on October 9.
