Greetings, BBN!
California, our Top State last week, followed things up pretty well. USC, hosting the Michigan Wolverines, won handily 31-13 against the then 4-1 Blue and Maize. The other Big Ten brand,
the UCLA Bruins, that rapidly accelerated Penn State’s season’s downfall last week, followed that win up with a road win at Michigan State.
Thus, California walloped the state of Michigan upside the head while the Cal Golden Bears were hibernating, and the Mountain West teams won some and lost some. This week, we turn our attention to the team and state that has taken over the Big Ten, getting their biggest win in school history and almost assuring themselves of a spot in the CFP.
Honorable Mention: Texas
The Lone Star State had its best week of the season, getting wins from Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Houston, and SMU at the Power 4 level. Only TCU lost, and Baylor was off. The Texas win was over undefeated #4 Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry, and the other four teams’ wins were all in conference games. It’s been a pretty big week for Texas, especially since Arch Manning and the Longhorns were finally able to win a big game and get their season on the right track again.
The Top State: Indiana
Last weekend, one state took over the Big Ten and college football with a 3:30 pm College Gameday showdown. The Indiana Hoosiers, representing their state way out on the West Coast in Eugene, Oregon, triumphed over the #3 nationally ranked and undefeated Ducks by a score of 30-20. It was the biggest win in school history, and put them, and thus the entire state of Indiana, firmly into the driver’s seat for a CFP berth—and maybe even a first-round bye as well.
Notre Dame won, Purdue lost, and Ball State got shut out, but none of that matters—Indiana’s win changed the entire college football landscape.
Thus, Indiana is on top after Week 7.
