Before Wednesday’s game, he had a .371 OPS as a member of the Bombers, yet he has been hitting third or fourth in the order. Manager Aaron Boone implied he might be pressing a little bit, but he continues to back him. “I think there’s a level of, ‘He wants to show us,’ but we know we got a good player here and a good hitter,” Boone said. “He’s fit in very well here. I think you
just want to prove yourself, so there’s probably a little bit of that going on.”
The skipper said that Ramos is “definitely hit into some tough luck” as a Yankee, and he might be right. As Phillips explained, the .121-point difference between his .178 wOBA and .299 xwOBA since August 4 was the second-largest of any player in the majors with at least 40 plate appearances over that stretch. A .299 xwOBA is not particularly impressive, but the main takeaway is that there might be better days on the horizon for Ramos.

Shawn Estes, who wasn’t on the Mets in 2000, had the responsibility of hitting Clemens, but instead, he missed the target and threw behind him in front of a crowd that, quite frankly, was thirsty for blood. To this day, he resents the instruction given to him and explains why. “The reason why I resented it is not that I felt like that it didn’t need to be done and it wasn’t like the ‘woe is me, why am I the guy that has to take care of this?’ I kind of felt like it was more of it wasn’t my responsibility,” he told Tony Reali.
“I feel like it should have fallen on someone that had more skin in the game, that had more emotions toward the situation that was at hand,” the former pitcher said.
