Welcome to The Linc, the daily Philadelphia Eagles links roundup at Bleeding Green Nation!
Jeffrey Lurie’s track record shows that he doesn’t tolerate failure, especially on offense. Nick Sirianni could be in real trouble if things continue to go poorly over the rest of the season. In the event that Sirianni isn’t back, I do think Kliff Kingsbury could be one of their targets. He interviewed for the team’s offensive coordinator opening in 2024 and they reportedly had some interest in him during their last
OC search. Kingsbury also has connections with Lincoln Riley, who has a relationship with Howie Roseman. Lurie has yet to hire a retread as a head coach but Kingsbury might be on the better end of candidates that will be willing to take the job in Philly. Are you interested in him or any other candidates … or do you want Sirianni back for 2027?
Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
Five Eagles head coach candidates, if Nick Sirianni is fired – PhillyVoice
Kliff Kingsbury played quarterback in the NFL for five different teams, and he spent some time in NFL Europe and the CFL. He became known for running the “Air Raid” offense, which is a spread, up-tempo, mainly shotgun approach. Its effectiveness is contingent on how well the players can master and execute a limited playbook. He is best known for his four-year head coaching tenure in Arizona, a span during which Kingsbury led the Cardinals to a 28-37-1 record. The following is a snapshot of the Cardinals’ offensive rankings during Kingsbury’s reign. [….] The Cardinals’ best season under Kingsbury was in 2021, when they jumped out to a 10-2 record, before losing four of their last five games followed by a blowout loss in the wildcard round of the playoffs. He also had success in Washington as an offensive coordinator working with Jayden Daniels, who was a rookie phenom under Kingsbury’s tutelage. Currently, Kingsbury is serving as the assistant head coach under Sean McVay in Los Angeles. The Eagles interviewed Kingsbury for their open offensive coordinator position prior to the 2024 season, and they were reportedly close working out a deal.
NFL trade rumors: Landon Dickerson draws interest as Eagles trade target – BGN
The Eagles have less than a week until the NFL trade deadline, and the expectations are that they’ll be making several moves between now and then. Landon Dickerson has been a name that’s been floating around as a potential trade candidate, and the latest report by Ryan Fowler reveals that the guard is drawing interest from teams.
A New QB – Iggles Blitz
This move will seem desperate to some, and that is a fair criticism. But I’m okay with it. McKee needs the right circumstances to be successful. He showed potential in 2024 when playing with a great OL, dynamic receivers, and an elite RB. This offense is world’s different. McKee had to do more of the heavy lifting and his limitations showed. He’s just not a guy who can carry an offense. Milton might not be that guy either, but his physical tools give him a better chance of handling that role. If protection breaks down, he can use his legs to make a play. If he’s got a clean pocket, Milton can use his arm strength to get the ball downfield on intermediate or deep routes. The offense has struggled all season so I don’t see the harm in trying a new QB. McKee threw 2 TDs and 2 INTs in his three starts. It isn’t like you’re walking away from much.
What 18 contenders should do at the NFL trade deadline: Who could get aggressive? – ESPN
Luxury target: The Eagles might not be dealing all of their veterans, but I wonder if Howie Roseman could be talked into a move for Zack Baun, who has been one of the league’s best linebackers since moving to the position on a full-time basis in Philadelphia. Baun is coming off back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons and has allowed a 72.8 passer rating in coverage this season, but he’s also about to turn 30, and the Eagles might need to devote resources toward positions Roseman values more consistently. Baun would cost the Bengals only $607,500 over the rest of 2026 before $17 million in salary in 2027, which is the final year of his current contract. The Eagles might also be interested in supplementing their defensive line depth by taking a shot on 2025 first-round pick Shemar Stewart, which would reduce the amount of draft capital the Bengals need to send to get a deal done.
Eagles turn to Joe Milton, the first of two QB auditions they must stage to make the most of 2026 – Inquirer
The one criticism you might make of the decision to start Milton is that it wasn’t a decision to start Payton. The beefy dual-threat lefty has lingered on the active roster all season after the Eagles selected him at No. 178 overall out of North Dakota State. Milton will now be the fourth quarterback who has been ahead of him on the depth chart, after Hurts, McKee, and veteran Andy Dalton. It’s a good bet that Payton will get his chance at some point. For now, it makes sense to go in this order. If Milton sets the world on fire, great. House money. If he doesn’t, the Eagles will at least buy another handful of weeks before they can again switch things up and inject a sense of the new. These are the considerations they must prioritize now. The only good that can come from 2026 is whatever helps them in 2027 and beyond. Milton and Payton at least offer them that, however marginal the likely payoff.
Eagles locker room rallying around rocket-armed QB Joe Milton – NBCSP
If you happened to be in South Philadelphia on Wednesday afternoon and have supersonic hearing, you might have already known the Eagles have a new starting quarterback. Joe Milton has that type of arm. “He zips it. He zips it,” receiver Darius Cooper said shaking his head. “You can hear it flying in the air.” The rest of the world found out the Eagles made the decision to bench Tanner McKee and go with Milton from ESPN less than 2 hours after head coach Nick Sirianni failed mention a thing during his Wednesday press conference. And neither Milton nor McKee were available to reporters after Wednesday’s practice. But despite some janky attempts at obfuscation from a couple of starting offensive linemen on Wednesday, the team knows who is starting against the Giants on Sunday afternoon. It’s Milton. Dallas Goedert said he and his teammates found out the news in a meeting minutes before the public heard. “We were kind of hoping that it would stay under wraps,” Goedert said. “It would be a competitive advantage and they wouldn’t find out until Saturday. But it didn’t take long for people to know.”
Nick Sirianni: I’ve always felt complete support from Jeffrey Lurie – PFT
“I’ve always felt nothing but complete support from Mr. Lurie in everything, through good times, through bad times,” Sirianni said, via a transcript from the team. “That’s huge. That’s huge to be able to know that the owner has your back in all situations. We’ve been high of highs, we’ve been low, and I’ve felt nothing but support and my communication remains the same with him as it has [been] whether we’re on a winning streak or whether we’re on a losing streak. I love that steadiness, and I’m trying to give that same thing to the guys: the consistency, the steadiness, because I know I’m receiving it from the very top.”
The Best Bets of NFL Week 9 – The Ringer
The Eagles have never won as a home underdog with Nick Sirianni (0-8), and he’s in serious danger of bottoming out here. I’ll probably just wait to play the Giants in the second half.
NY Giants injury update: Cam Skattebo, Abdul Carter still not practicing – Big Blue View
Head coach John Harbaugh said “we’ll see” when asked on Wednesday if Skattebo would be able to play vs. Philadelphia. Skattebo did work with a trainer during practice. If Skattebo cannot play, Devin Singletary would start with newly-acquired Gregory Desrosiers, making his NFL debut, as the primary backup. The Giants also have running backs Phil Mafah and Eric Gray on the practice squad.
Cowboys point/counterpoint: Inconsistency looms as huge obstacle – Blogging The Boys
Tom – It’s hard to process the abject failure we witnessed at AT&T Stadium. After bottling up the Arizona offense for the most part, the Cowboys’ defense just seemed to crumble once Minshew came in. What is really mystifying is how the most damage was done by running back Tyler Allgeier. Another bevy of missed tackles and bad defensive alignments let him run free. The defense had really been the main reason Dallas built a 14-point lead at half. Then it just fell apart. Meanwhile, their offense was also displaying its own version of inconsistency. After a good showing against the admittedly depleted Philadelphia Eagles, we once again saw multiple missed opportunities. The run game went back to sleep. A rash of sacks of Dak Prescott also played a big part. We are seeing evidence that he has to have a clean pocket to make the passing game work. Once that breaks down, things go off the rails. Now the chance for the first winning streak has been blown, they are facing another ‘must win’ game. The Colts do look very beatable. The challenge is that Dallas cannot play down to the level of the competition again.
NFL trade deadline: A deep dive into potential Commanders targets – Hogs Haven
Landon Dickerson. Dickerson represents an absolute walking red flag from a medical standpoint. His history of severe knee injuries suggests his lower body is operating on borrowed time. Even at a discounted rate, trading for this level of medical instability is an unnecessary gamble. The front office should strongly and explicitly advise against executing a move here. Projected Value: Low Day 3 pick swap.
Cardinals trade updates: Sweat & Budda – Revenge Of The Birds
And Arizona will most likely retain his services because Ossenfort isn’t letting Sweat go for cheap. Word is, the Cardinals have a high asking price, which will keep some teams in the probability category, while others will simply bow out. Sweat has stated that he would be amenable to a trade, or would be happy to stay put. The Cardinals have complete control over this situation. Considered dead, by coming back and beating Dallas the way they did, it is quite possible that a QB change will alter this offense going forward, and that Arizona isn’t interested in letting Sweat walk away. After all, every NFL club is always looking for a good pass rusher, and Sweat has two more years remaining on his contract.
Bucs claim guard Trevor Keegan off waivers – Bucs Nation
The Bucs are adding the former Eagles draft pick to their team after he was waived by the Vikings.
What Mack Hollins, Greg Van Roten returning to practice means for the Patriots – Pats Pulpit
Last Sunday against the Miami Dolphins might have been the low point for the Patriots’ wide receiver group, at least personnel-wise. The Patriots were without three of their top four receivers, including Hollins, and had to rely on a starter trio of Efton Chism, Kyle Williams and DeMario Douglas. The group performed well — it caught a combined nine passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns — but a lack of depth forced recently-signed practice squad wideout Ryan Miller to be elevated as an emergency option. Hollins’ full return whether this week or at a later point will help address the issue. Before getting hurt in Week 4, he played 63% of New England’s offensive snaps this season and had caught 15 passes for 209 yards. The numbers were not particularly impressive, but the 33-year-old showed some chemistry with quarterback Drake Maye while also being able to be a contributor in the running game; his effective replacement, Chism, has been competitive in that latter area but is lacking Hollins’ size and power.
Lions promote LB Joe Bachie to active roster, sign two other LBs – Pride Of Detroit
The Detroit Lions announced three linebacker-related roster transactions on Wednesday: signing [former Eagles LB] Joe Bachie from the practice squad to the active roster, signing K.J. Britt from the Patriots’ practice squad to the active roster, and signing Owen Pappoe to the practice squad.
Bears report: DT Kentavius Street goes on injured reserve – Chicago Sun-Times
Two days after he left Monday’s game with a knee injury, [former Eagles] defensive tackle Kentavius Street was put on season-ending injured reserve. He started a whopping seven of eight games for the Bears this season after signing as a free agent, though he took a backseat to Jeffery Simmons after his arrival last week.
Jack Campbell shares ‘optimistic’ update after scary neck injury – SB Nation
Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell has shared an “optimistic” update days after suffering a scary neck injury against the Minnesota Vikings. Campbell was injured while making a tackle during Sunday’s game against Minnesota, and after laying motionless on the Ford Field turf for an extended period, he was stabilized on a stretcher and taken to a hospital for further evaluation and tests. Updates from the team were rather matter-of-fact, reflecting a desire to respect his and his family’s wishes. On Wednesday, Campbell shared a lengthy update on social media, relaying that he has “full movement” in his lower body, and that he is “continuing to make progress with movement” in his upper body. Campbell also thanked the athletic trainers and medical personnel who responded to his injury during the game, as well as the medical team at Henry Ford Hospital.
