Algeria looked like a strong opponent throughout the evening, but Messi was too much. His opening goal was a blast from distance, his second was a calm tap-in after Alexis Mac Allister’s attempt from range was spilled by Luca Zidane, and the third was a driven shot into the bottom corner from outside the box. In the nightcap, Austria opened the scoring against Jordan in the 20th minute, Jordan equalized in the 50th, but Austria managed two more in the 76th and 102nd minutes to end at 3-1.
Today we move to Groups K and L, the final teams who have yet to play in this tournament. Portugal will look to get off to a strong start as they face a DR Congo side that is likely the weakest in Group K. England and Croatia will likely be vying to win Group L, and they get things started against each other, repeating their 2018 World Cup semifinal match. Ghana and Panama will be desperate to get three points in their matchup before they have to face England and Croatia, and Colombia will look to start strong against Uzbekistan in order to compete with Portugal in Group K.
