Following the completion of their first set of back-to-back preseason games, the Colorado Avalanche made just one cut on Tuesday sending Beckett Hamilton back to Red Deer in the WHL. He had a great showing in camp skating with top Avalanche forwards and scored a goal against Utah. He will likely play two more years of junior and should be a serious ELC signing candidate and perhaps might even get an interview by then.
Then, following practice on Wednesday there were a couple more moves made. Defensemen Domenick Fensore and Christian Wolanin were placed on waivers and will head to Colorado Eagles camp when they clear. Additionally, three forwards in Cooper Gay, Maros Jedlicka and Nikita Prishchepov were also reassigned to the Eagles. Prishchepov had a good camp and got in two preseason games, it’s too bad he couldn’t have stuck around longer but the Eagles travel to Tucson for their own back-to-back set of preseason games this weekend.
There are now 39 players left at Avalanche camp including 21 forwards, 14 defensemen, and four goaltenders. With less than a week until opening night on September 30th, this is a larger than usual group at this juncture but many players are still with the team to fill out the roster for that road contest against Utah on Saturday, September 26th. There should be a fairly large cut after then as the Avalanche need to quickly get down to their opening night roster.
