Former heavyweight David Haye spent some time talking to iFL TV about a number of topics, including Moses Itauma’s most recent first round stoppage of Dillian Whyte and how he rates the 20-year-0ld fighter after that performance. Haye makes it clear that he’s never see a fighter as polished at Itauma as such a young age, and thinks he has what it takes to beat pretty much any heavyweight fighter in the world at the moment. Here’s some of what he had to say on that topic.
Haye on Itauma’s chances against Usyk right now
“Even with how inexperienced
he is, he’s got the firepower and heavy-handedness to cause all sorts of problems for anybody. I know Usyk’s a genius and he is the best in the world, I’m talking about the person who has the best chance of beating him, I’m not saying he’s going to beat him. I’m saying who else is there that has a better chance? Everyone else has tried and failed and he’s young, he’s fresh, he’s hungry, and he seems to have crazy heavy hands, and remember Usyk isn’t a natural heavyweight, he is a cruiserweight — he’s a pumped up cruiserweight.
“Those types of punches that Moses was throwing would take out any natural born heavyweight. Dillian is not a cruiserweight by any stretch of the imagination, been a long time since he’s been down in that way, and (Itauma) showed how powerful he was with such ease.”
On if Itauma would beat Anthony Joshua right now
“Yeah, I think he beats everybody. I think he beats everybody. The only person is Usyk, that’s the only person…Off the strength of that victory over Dillian Whyte — sounds crazy, I know it sounds mental — but there’s no chinks in his game. I can’t see where anyone can penetrate, what he does bad. Everything’s just really clean and I don’t think I’ve seen that before.”
