The Arizona Cardinals are hiring their fifth head coach since I took over the site in 2016.
After Jess left, I watched the Arizona Cardinals go from Super Bowl favorite back to the dregs of the NFL, it is always interesting to see how these things go.
Think about this, the Arizona Cardinals went from Bruce Arians (who had a “health” issue that led him to retire for a full year before getting back into coaching with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers), to Steve Wilks, to Kliff Kingsbury, to Jonathan Gannon, to whoever
is next.
All of those men had no previous head coaching experiences (sans Bruce Arians as an interim head coach with the Indianapolis Colts).
Now, the Cardinals are up to seven names for their head coaching position.
Insane to think.
The names we knew coming into today:
- Seattle Seahawks: OC Klint Kubiak
- San Francisco 49ers: DC Robert Saleh
- Miami Dolphins: DC Anthony Weaver
- Denver Broncos: DC Vance Joseph
- New England Patriots: passing game coordinator Thomas Brown
Today, the team added two more:
- Kansas City Chiefs: OC Matt Nagy
- Atlanta Falcons former HC Raheem Morris
So, now the team has seven names they are trying to pull from, four former head coaches in Saleh (20-36 as a head coach), Vance Joseph (11-21 as a head coach), Matt Nagy (34-31 as head coach), and Raheem Morris (37-56 as a head coach) and then three up and comers.
The former head coaches are intriguing, but the best record wise is probably the one who fans would least want.
Yet, would the young guys be able to pull decent coaches to help fill out the staff?
Those are questions we need answered and what we won’t know until after it is too late.
