Maryland football commit Zion Elee surely knew what would happen when he was spotted on an official visit in Columbia, South Carolina.
For many Maryland fans, the unannounced visit — which came as the Terps
had lost three straight games — was a sign of concern.
But the crown jewel of head coach Michael Locksley’s class of 2026 recruitment push attempted to dispel fears from Terps fans over his commitment to the program by doubling down on his pledge to Maryland.
In his press conference Tuesday, Locksley admitted that he wasn’t overly concerned with the ramifications of the visit, suggesting that in doing so, Elee might have gotten himself a payday.
“He’s been one of those guys that’s been really loyal to this area, he’s been loyal to me and the program that we’ve created… I’m not saying that that’s what happened, but you know, over the years for me, if I have great communication with a kid, I can’t operate out of fear,” Locksley continued.
Elee has been in attendance at several Maryland games this season, with Saturday’s homecoming matchup against Indiana likely the next on his list. The game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. and be available to watch on CBS.
