Indiana women’s basketball dropped to 0-1 in Big Ten play and 8-2 on the season with after a 78-57 battering on the road against Illinois at the State Farm Center in Champaign.
If something could go wrong for the Hoosiers, it did. Indiana has been without starting center Zania Socka-Nguemen for the past two games but was able to compete in the Coconut Hoops Championship against Iowa State before getting exposed against the Illini.
Paint defense without Socka-Nguemen became somewhat of a worry when
the Cyclones’ Audi Crooks was able t0 put up 47 points, but it became a glaring weakness when the Illini were able to capitalize to the tune of 58 points in the paint.
On offense, Indiana just couldn’t get anything going. The Hoosiers finished with 20 turnovers to just 12 assists. Shay Ciezki, who’s been spectacular as a scorer, finished with 23 points despite shooting 1-6 from deep but was in significant foul trouble, picking up 4.
