The message board rumors are true.
Penn State football head coach Matt Campbell announced after practice Wednesday that star wide receiver Koby Howard will miss an “extended period of time” with an undisclosed injury. His injury is not season-ending.
Campbell said earlier this week that Howard got “dinged up” during his second touchdown against Buffalo,
but that his status moving forward was unknown. He’s now set to miss Penn State’s Big Ten opener against Wisconsin this Saturday, but it’s still unclear just how long he will remain out.
Howard was the clear-cut WR1 to begin the season, leading the team with 344 receiving yards and 12 receptions. The Nittany Lions will now need to turn to Chase Sowell, TE Ben Brahmer, Brett Eskildsen, and Zay Robinson to make up for the remaining pass production. Sowell currently has the team’s second-most receiving yards with 126.
After Saturday’s date with Wisconsin, Penn State is set to head to Northwestern, host USC, and then head to Michigan before a mid-October idle week.
