The Golden State Warriors begin NBA Cup play with a Friday night matchup against the Denver Nuggets. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM PT in Denver and can be watched on Prime Video.
Previously with the Warriors:
Golden State lost its most recent game on Wednesday night against the Sacramento Kings, 121–116. Both teams were shorthanded — the Warriors played without Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green, while the Kings were missing Zach LaVine and Domantas Sabonis.
Nevertheless, the Golden State’s young players put up a solid effort behind Moses Moody and rookie Will Richard as the two combined for 58 points. However, it was Sacramento’s veteran depth that ultimately sealed the win, led by Russell Westbrook’s 23-point, 16-rebound, 10-assist triple-double.
What to watch for tonight:
Golden State will open NBA Cup play without Curry in the lineup as he continues to deal with an illness. While Green is expected to return tonight, Butler, Moses Moody, and Al Horford are all listed as questionable.
Following Wednesday’s loss, Steve Kerr delivered a pointed message about the team’s careless turnovers. The Warriors allowed 30 points off 19 turnovers against Sacramento and currently rank fourth in the league in turnovers per game (17.2). With Kerr’s message clear, look for Golden State to put an extra emphasis on limiting turnovers in this one.
